Morehead City NC Police Department

The new Morehead City Police Department was a joint project between Morehead City and Carteret County. Beginning as a renovation-and-addition to an existing high school ‘shop class’ building, upon receiving construction bids, the winning contractor (D.H. Griffin) offered to demolish the existing structure and build a completely new facility, all for a very affordable price.  Ultimately, the County and City accepted this long-term cost-saving proposal and the project scope shifted from renovation to new construction.

In the new building, the Police Department occupies 16,000 SF and Carteret County administrative offices occupy 4,000 SF.  An approximate 4,000 SF operations space is shared by the County and City EOCs.
