Pleasant Valley SC Fire Station No. 14

Located just fifteen minutes outside of Charlotte, NC, the new Pleasant Valley Fire Department Station No. 14 was awarded a 2011 Station Style Bronze Award by Fire Chief magazine. Covering over 16 square miles of territory, the station is staffed by a nearly 100% volunteer force. Stewart-Cooper-Newell Architects helped the department’s leadership with their site selection process for this project, to aid them in finding a location that would best fit their station’s needs. The completed, 4-bay facility was built using a metal building structure to decrease construction costs.

The building’s asphalt shingle roofing and exterior cladding were designed specifically to blend with the nearby residential neighborhoods. The station includes a training / meeting room for approximately 40 occupants that can be made available to the public without interfering with fire station operations. A large dayroom, kitchen and adjacent outdoor patio space provide spaces for the volunteers to gather, share meals and grill during warm weather. The facility’s design also includes office space for station officers, a tool and equipment room, a small, private conference room and bunk rooms to accommodate future overnight shifts.
