Property Description
The City selected Stewart-Cooper-Newell to design three new fire stations, starting with Station No. 12. This new station is the largest of the Department’s twenty-nine stations and significantly enhances response coverage to the eastern limits of the city. The station was designed to be a prototype for upcoming new and replacement Raleigh stations. The station was designed with an all-masonry veneer, metal hipped roof, and arched openings to not only be a durable facility, but to also provide a smaller scale to an otherwise large station such that it could aesthetically fit into most residential or commercial neighborhoods.
Within the station are three, drive-thru apparatus bays with bi-fold doors, separate decontamination and PPE facilities, a training mezzanine, separate officer administrative spaces and living suites, fire fighter dorm areas with “cold-bunk” accommodations, a commercial grade kitchen, a spacious fitness room, and specialty training props.
The design included many “sustainable” features, resulting in a LEED Silver certification.
